Bodhi has been a labor of love for me that was started nearly four years ago. In that time all of the other original team members fell away. In fact I have worked with dozens of different people over the course of the last few years. I have made friends and learned more than I could have ever imagined.
With that being said, even though I no longer have the bandwidth to actively develop Bodhi, I know many enjoy using the project. So if you are reading this and have an interest in picking up where I am leaving off, please contact me. All Bodhi related code can be found on my GitHub page and I am more than happy to help guide you in the right direction with how things work as you are getting started.
To our users out there, thanks to your amazing support earlier this year our existing servers are paid for through the end of April 2015. So even if no one chooses to pick up where I have left off, your existing systems will continue having repository access until this time. Edit: Bodhi isn't dead, just changing hands.
All in all, it has been fun. I started Bodhi during my senior year of undergrad and have continued to guide it through moving three times, graduate school, getting married, several different jobs, and even my first wonderful kid:

Thank you for all your hard work in producing such a great product. I have different versions installed on 2 netbooks. It is so lightweight and easy to use, it has made a huge difference to using my machines. I hope someone takes up the mantle and keeps bodhi alive.

ReplyDeleteBodhi Linux is one of the best and lightest distro out there. I Have been using bodhi since 2 years. I installed many distro on my notebook but I kept coming back to bodhi. The beauty and performance of bodhi kept me hooked up. Thanks Jeff for your hard work and your efforts you put in to give us bodhi Linux. Really appreciate it. I hope someone as good as you pick up the work where you left.

ReplyDeleteI hope someone steps up as maintainer of Bodhi, but for you I wish you can take some time to be with your family, specially your son. Some things in life are way too ephemeral, before you notice he'll be going to school. Be sure to teach him some things and to learn from him a lot of things.
I know your kind: you do things not because of others, but because there's joy in doing the good work.
I hope you can spare some minutes now and then to keep writing just like you did before -- that will be excellent, too.

ReplyDeleteI'm a Kubuntu user myself, but have used Bodhi to resurrect older/slower hardware, and I recommend it OFTEN to others who are looking for a lightweight Linux distro. I appreciate all your hard work, and I hope someone(s) will step up and keep Bodhi alive.

Bodhi was a great distro and it was the name of my little daughter's toy bear :) Well, I was driving one day with my wife and daughter in the back seat and she kept crying. You know two year olds, they cry. I stopped at a gas station and bought her a big toy bear and she asked me what the bear's name is. I thought for a few seconds and said "I guess her name is Bodhi". That stopped her crying for the rest of the voyage. She still keeps that bear next to her bed, as I keep your distribution. Once again, thanks for all the efforts and I wish you a happy life with your family.

I installed it on my HP netbook, because I had trouble getting the wireless to work, I think its Broadcom. For unknown reasons, I have been consistently unable to activate Broadcom manually. Sigh.

Thank you very much Jeff and all others who helped create and maintain Bodhi Linux. I really enjoyed learning with Bodhi. You guys have left some awfully big shoes to fill, for anyone wants to dedicate a distro to the Enlightenment Desktop... I had a bad feeling when the initial desktop setup steps were not going to be part of the latest incarnation of Bodhi, in a selfish way I am pleased as she'll never have lost that in a final release now.. A lot of advice surrounding Linux recently is encouraging homogenisation or making it easier for x win users. Long live enlightenment, cheers Jeff

Thank you so much Jeff... What a shocking moment... when I saw that there was no more bodhilinux in the list of Distrowatch... I've learn and enjoyed linux by bodhilinux for last three years... It revived my pentium 3 (IBM sub-laptop X20, X21) and several laptops and desktops. What a wonderful and beautiful moments... those were revived. Thank you again for Jeff's devotion for this valuable distro and good luck for Jeff's family and his dedicated colleagues ! And I'll be waiting for enlightening revival of bodhilinux in near future. ;)
